Marcel the Shell with Shoes on

September 3, 2010

Here’s an adorable stop-motion film voiced by Jenny Slate (the woman who swore in her first sketch on Saturday Night Live) and animated by Dean Fleischer-Camp. I love it so much; I’ve already watched it about 10 times. You can watch it here.
It’ll for sure be the cutest three minutes of your week.

WIN a Jean-Paul De Roover CD/DVD

December 2, 2009

This is “Fix”, by Jean-Paul De Roover, video shot by Shannon Lepere. I like this video and its slightly creepy use of over 600 band-aids.

You can win a copy of Jean-Paul De Roover’s new CD/DVD album.

1. Watch the video above.

2. Leave a comment on this post, saying why you like the video or the song. That comment is your ballot into the draw.

Make sure to put your real email address into the comment form (your email address will NOT be visible on the blog, but I’ll need it to contact the winner! And I promise I won’t spam you.)

3. For bonus points, become Jean-Paul’s fan on Facebook and leave a second comment on this blog to let me know you Facebooked him. That comment will count as your second entry into the draw.
Here’s the link to his Facebook fan page.

Contest closes at midnight on Friday December 4.

That’s it! So easy! I’ll use a randomizer to pick the winning entry this Saturday December 5. I’ll email the winner to get your mailing address (we can only mail this to a North American address, sorry overseas people!), then Jean-Paul will mail you your awesome free CD/DVD. The packaging folds out into a house, how full of WIN is that?

Winner is comment # 16, Bryan Cesar.
Thanks to everyone who entered!

Fred Flintstone stop-motion animation

October 28, 2009

This is fun.
I never really conceptualized Fred’s tunic as being a furry pelt. I guess it’s obvious it would be, but I just never saw it that way when I watched the cartoon. I was also a very dull child who believed that the way to tell time was to take whatever numbers the clock’s hands were pointing at, and add them together. It was 24 o’clock a lot for me back then.

Wolf wants pig: stop motion photo animation, animated

April 14, 2009

Wicked little animated movie by Takeuchi Taijin, made by photographing stop-motion animation, then laying out the photos and photographing them, too. Supa coo.

In some ways this reminds me of Muto by BLU– I like how the characters define the world as they pass through it, and the clever use of space and geometry.

Awesome Stop-Motion Vid: Her Morning Elegance, Oren Lavie

February 1, 2009

Beautifully- animated 3.5 min vid.  Nice song, too.

The bird’s-eye view of the bed was an old fave of mine from my past life directing theatre.  There’s really no other way to stage a bed scene- side views are annoying and look amateurish.  A clean, stylish bird’s-eye, though?  With smart details of how it gets constructed the moment before it’s needed?  Yes.  Wait a sec, do I miss directing plays?  Maybe I do.

Thanks to JessPerson for the tip.

Happy New Year’s. Pretend this isn’t a commercial.
