Some thoughts:

1.
Yesterday I went to a new dentist who scaled my teeth so decisively that I felt like she’d removed them from my mouth and run them through a sandblaster. She just got right up in there with her tartarhooks and gleefully just plowed my mouth. My whole skull was reverberating with the thoroughness of her calculus-blasting. She’s awesome. I’m debating inviting her over to tackle the grout in my shower.

2.
My beloved Blundstone low-top shoes are falling to shreds- leaving actual chunks of the soles in a trail behind me like sad rubber breadcrumbs. The salespeople tell me they are much too far-gone to resole, and the style has been discontinued. Two years ago I saw an identical pair, in pretty good shape, in exactly my size, in a thrift store, but didn’t buy them because buying duplicate items makes me feel like a crazy cat lady hoarder. I deeply regret this decision. Duplicates of everything from this day forward! I will store my duplicates in plastic bins and stack them against the walls of my apartment in tottering piles!

3.

Thank you Elliott, for directing my attention to whatever this is.

Pageslapping you with Pages

November 19, 2011

That is a lemur sneaking up on a fennec fox. For obvious reasons.

Here is a set of the 25 worst Life Magazine covers ever, with wry commentary. The fact that this is on the Life Magazine website makes me really like Life Magazine.

If you’re trying to get some writing done, Written Kitten will help.

If you would like to see a semicircle of white men looking very uncomfortable, Steve McQueen’s great commentary about diversity in casting is a good place to start.

Sink Positive – Eco-friendly bathroom sink

November 16, 2011

This is an amazing idea. It’s a new lid that attaches to any toilet cistern, re-routing the clean water that refills the tank up into a sink that you can use to wash your hands. The soapy hand-wash water then goes back into the tank to be stored for the next flush. Genius.

Cougars and Catwalks

November 8, 2011

Cougar sent me a new pair of boots to talk about: the style’s called Marla.

They’re an interesting combination of practicality and cuteness:
warm, waterproof, cold-weather hiking booties… with 3-inch heels.

I like to combine the practical with the cute, so I chose to model these while trying to take my reluctant cat for a walk.

Please to enjoy.

One thing about cats is that they don’t particularly like being “walked”. This can lead to conflict.

And/or lots of waiting around.

So, when walking a cat, it’s important to have comfortable feet, since no doubt the animal will stubbornly crouch in the grass and refuse to move for long periods of time.

I’m sure some very complex thoughts are happening in that fluffy head.

I’m talking about my head, not the cat’s head.

Man, my cat is adorable. Ok, look at the boots. The shearling interiors are nice and warm. The man-made, PVC-free outers are waterproof.

The laces are long enough that I decided to try a new thing and wrap them under the boot before I tied them. I dunno, I’m just an innovator, I guess.

My rating on these is a yes.

Mojo pretty much agreed, then wanted to go back inside.

Thanks to Cougar Boots and Matchstick Promotions for the boot hookup!

Evelyn Evelyn are conjoined twins in a band. Really they are a boy and a girl in connected dresses. Nice.

Arrested Development Family Reunion

October 3, 2011

If you “like” the New Yorker Facebook page, then hit the “Facebook Exclusives” link on the left side of that page, you can watch a 97-minute panel with the entire cast and the creator of Arrested Development. Lots of great tidbits about the show and fun news about the prospect of a movie. I was planning to listen to 10 minutes of this. That was 97 minutes ago.
